BD>I have a some computerized woodworking projects in my mind like a
BD>computer controlled router. Once you get into automation stuff like
BD>this, it is highly contagious. I've put sensors and
BD>controls on my pool pump, home AC unit, golf clubs, car,
BD>you name it. The next step is PICs and microcontrollers.
BD>I just received the TI MSP430 development kit today. It is
BD>a beauty of a low power microcontroller with high channel
BD>count, high resolution ADC and the first I've ever seen with op-amps
BD>built in.
That reminds me of an experience I had once. I was working on a system
whereby a telephone call could be made to an electric meter and interval
data (usage data for an 'interval of time') was downloaded. We set the
electric meter set to sample interval data every five minutes, then
attached the meter to the dwelling of a company executive. The
executive could tell when his spouse used a major appliance by the spike
in electrical usage. He would call his wife three or four times a day
to remind her to turn off the clothes dryer, the greenhouse lights, you
name it.
