Thus, on 27 Aug 96 at 2:28 AM, that August Abolins said to Chris Smith:
CS> I noticed something odd about the new 1.440-18. Several times,
CS> the modem has initiated retrains, even with the %E and %G both set
CS> to "0" to disable retrains. (One BBS it did this on is also using
CS> the Supra 28.8 external with the 1.440-18; the other using a USR
CS> v.34)
AA> I was told by Supratech@supra.com that a retrain and renegotiate will
always
AA> occur if the REMOTE modem requests it irregardless of local modem's
AA> settings. This applies to v34bis modem and up.
Which is which, though? I always assumed the "local" as you referred to it,
was the BBS, and the "remote" was the modem calling it...
CS> (BTW, I did finally manage to get a connect at 31.2k, but not with
CS> the support BBS. For some odd reason, the best I get there is
CS> 26.4k.)
AA> Same here. I rarely get good connections there. I call from Montreal,
AA> Canada. I have often only achieved VFC mode.
Strange... [Sigh]
