I'm not spinning Mark merely pointing out some of the technicalities.
Opposite side of the same coin, we have Companies making deals with =
foreign powers as well. Do you feel that a company should have greater =
leeway to make a deal with a foreign power than an elected official, or = a
private citizen ?=20
And of course we have had our non elected friendly heads of states help =
the US out with oil prices in the past through their state owned oil =
companies.. Only difference seems to be you don't like Chavez's = politics.
Would you have a problem with BP or Exxon doing the same thing =
?
Under optimum conditions we would have large numbers of companies =
involved in business with limited government ownership / control. And = not
have a decent part of US refinery capacity ( or ANY other key = industrial
sector ) wholly owned or controlled by a foreign government = control
business.

Eh, spin it out anyway you want Bob, but when Chavez takes to the =

of the = United States and congressmen from that region help his persona by

= different than cutting deals with a foreign power, though that Citgo =
loophole is a nice soft landing for those that want to make the deals -- =
sort of like, "Jack who? I dealt with the Indians"
Bottom-line: The U.S.A. deals with other countries, it's not for =
podunk congressmen, from podunk county, "anystate kinda sorta part
of" = the U.S." to do so.=20
Next thing Arizona podunks will make deals with Chirac for free =

Are they really deals with Chavez or with Citgo, which happens to be =
owned by the government that Chavez is the elected leader of ?
We have already decided that the Federal Government shouldn't be in =
the oil business. As long as the states are making deals with a private =
business ( Citgo) I don't see it as that much different from deals = states
make every day. Various states have made deals to give the poor a = break
on drugs, why not oil ?
That's just a little bit difference from a state being involved in =
foreign policy.

Why do you have a problem with Politicians trying to get cheaper =
oil for their constituents ?=20
Do you really want congressmen from all 50 states making side =
deals with Chavez and his ilk on a piecemeal basis? I sure don't and am =
amazed the feds didn't nix these deals before they got off the ground -- =
where do representatives of a few people (relatively speaking) get off =
cutting deals with foreign powers one-on-one anyway? Are we the United =
States of America, or are we 50 states that go as we please cutting = deals
with Castro, Chirac, Putin et al.?
