On 01-28-98, KEITH KNAPP declared to LARRY GAULT:
KK>If you had followed the thred just one post earlier, you would have
KK>seen that Mr Plett posted a dictionary definition of religion from the
KK>year 1828 or '29.
If you'd bother to read without your presumptive blinders on, you'd see
that Brian Tipling sent you that definition in a Dec 29 post, not me.
KK>That definition stated that if a system of thought
KK>does not involve God, it is not religion. I pointed out to Mr Plett
KK>that if he intended to use that quote as an authority, he might want
KK>to know that it directly disagrees with the religious right's claim
KK>that humanism is a religion.
You also conveniently ignored Brian's comments introducing the 1828
Webster definition. Brian posted that as a clarification of the meaning
of the term as the Founding Fathers understood it when they drafted the
Constitution and Bill of Rights. His was in no way an attempt to define
it as it is understood today, nor was he asserting a personal view of
that being the working definition.
So far as my own comments on humanism being a religion are concerned,
I've simply noted that the Supreme Court declared humanism to be a
religion (1961, Torcasco vs Watkins).
Little wonder you're so far off base so often - you have a real problem
getting things straight that are clearly written.
