CG> Chris
Hello Chris:
Don't mind me, I just get upset over parents who think they can school their
children better than those who have been doing it all their lives.....and I
am the first to agree that there are, I am sorry to say, bad teachers...but
most teachers are devoted to their work or they wouldn't put up with the
rotten pay, the long hours after the final bell rings, the extra work that
they must do by being chaprones at school functions, the long hot summers
they must spend in summer school brushing up on new techniques, and in a
good many cases, completely new course subjects that were not available to
them as students....like computer programming, etc.
Now, of course your daughter is going to act up when she is around the other
siblings....that is as normal as the sun rising in the east and setting in
the west. Kids have a "pecking" order within the family organization, and
once that has been firmly established, for the most part things will level
out. We raised 7 of our own, 2 sets of I.D. twins born just 11 months apart
and the other 3 were born very close together after that so that they all
had been born in less than 5 years!! Our saving grace was the fact that the
grandparents were around (my wife's parents) and they were raised in Vietnam
until the youngest boy was 7 years of age.....and the pecking order there is
not as pronounced as it is in this country.....teachers have to go through
it with 30 or 40 kids, until the pecking order in the classroom is estab-
lished there can be some trying times, especially with high school, and now
middle or Junior High school students....but it happens every year in the
fall.
Alright, if your school aged child is either physically or mentally
handicapped
and not able to attend institutionalized education (public or private
chool,
but institionalized, not home schooling) then by all means, school them at
home. That is what homeschooling was set up for.......but now parents are
taking advantage of it as if it were set up for every child, which it was
not.
A great dis-service is being done to a child who is able to attend school in
an institutionalized setting outside the home.
If you feel the school is not doing enought to educate your child, then get
involved with the school, don't hurt your child's chances of going as far
as possible in life by attempting homeschooling...unless of course it is
the only way for a child to receive any education....
Wishing you the best, please read some of my other posts in this conference
as they deal with other homeschooling parents, and some of the facts I have
mentioned may prove interesting to you. And may convince you that home
schooling is not in the best interest of the child except as a last resort.
Take care, Luck be yours with God's blessings;
