Ummm......OK I can see there is a minor gulf of understanding here.

Effectively the likes of OBL have created/are creating the
protestant-catholic split within Islam. Effectively they are saying (&
to a large degree rightly IMHO) that there's you & there's God &
that's it.

This circumvents all the established sources of Islamic law etc. i.e. there
was (is if one is traditional) a ban on anyone interpreting islamic law let
alone calling for jihad unless they are recognised authorities (i.e. by the
other islamic authorities).

So no mouthing off for your std muslim. However OBL & his lot kinda
fretted under that till they thought sod it....what matters wrt authority
is how many followers/adherants you have.

So to return to the Caliphate...under whose authority/laws etc would this
operate? King Abdullah of Jordan or one of the other descendants of the
prophet?

A grand Mufti of somewhere?

Or OBL & his boyz?
