I was watching a show the other day that was from the 1950's.  The postman
(or possibly, a parcel delivery man) put the package in a mailbox (at the
street) and then blew a whistle to indicate that the mail had been dropped
off.

Does anyone remember a time when delivery people, on foot, would blow a
whistle after leaving the mail?
