>Okay. My impression is that they got a transporter patterns consisting
of "Be in the same position as moment X" (Three days earlier)
and "Only remember up to moment X"
The story is unfortunately not clear on the actual technology used in the t= ime
travel, but then again, the crew was not able to determine exactly what was
going on, and I wasn't going to step in and narrate exactly what was
happen= ing.
>Again, the same question obtains. in a time travel story, why the three
day gap?
Maybe there's a certain degree of imprecision when moving across tens of th= ousands
and hundreds of thousands of years. Perhaps the Iconians wanted to make su= re
that the returned Athena did not appear before the original one was taken, = so they
returned the ship a few days after they took it to make sure that this did
= not happen.
>Black omne had a super transporter that could make perfect copies of
anything. he also had a perfect pattern editor, so, having beamed Spock,
Kirk and McCoy down to his planet under pretext, he could create a perfect
dplicate of Kirk for Sado-masochuistic torture.=20
Yikes! This is a lot like the transporter technology that appears in
"Trai= tor's Son (Part
Two)," at least in the sense that it can store and duplicate and edit
patte= rns, but it
does not allow you to beam out as something and use a stored pattern to app= ear as
someone else at the other end.
