 Are you using a Fiberglass Helicial Loaded Antenna? They would quite
well out of theri designed band .But as soem have said the Base Loaded
units don't wokk all that well. Except I use a Base Loaded 2 Meter HAM
antenna sometimes with my scaner and it works quite a bit better than
the antenna that came with it.  It is a Mag mounr Radio Shack model.
