I used a sort of playpen thing for Charlotte vice a real bed.  It had a
good ¨thick mattress and doubled as a sleeping 'crib' but was a type you
can take ¨with your on travel.  It meant I had to lean down to get her out,
but worked ¨well in our space limited apartment.  She transitioned later to
a child bed we ¨got used at a yardsale for 25$ that was actually quite nice
and the foot part ¨could be removed to make a normal single bed later.  We
ended up selling it for ¨25$ before we needed to do that as we moved to
Japan, and she used a futon on ¨the floor for the next 3 years.  Now she
has a bunk bed (room for a guest).
