Our regional amusement park here has a toy kiddie car ride, which is
chain driven on a track and the kids can turn the non-functional steering
wheels.
IIRC they were installed in the late '50s and the cars sport big fins. :)
I think they are still there.
Camden Park started out as a picnic area in 1906, owned by the street car
company and where the line ended and the cars turned around for the trip
back to town. Eventually the line was extended into a interurban line
connecting several towns in the tri-sta
Eventually rides were added, removed, new ones added, arcades, games of
skill, a large dining area, etc. We have oldest wooden roller coaster in the
country, built in the 1950s, which replaced the older, smaller one.
At one time, with transfers, one could ride 50 miles on a streetcar, from
town to town.
These were replaced in the mid '30s by buses.
The old streetcar rails are still visible in some areas.
Huntington was a hub for the C&O and N&S with their tracks paralleling
the street car tracks. Or vice versa is you will.
