Right. Someone else posted something about this to which I've
replied (unless I erased that .rep packet). Actually, people have
speculated about this and other causes of ROP for years and, at
least until recently, all the literature I've read was inclusive
at best. Even the finding in 1953 that ROP was "caused" by excess
oxygen being given to babies in incubators was based, according to
a medical text by a Dr. Silberman, not on scientific studies but
rather upon a rather inflamatory press release from a New York
hospital. That the information was taken as Gospel by everyone
including physicians is a measure of how much blindness was and is
feared in our society. Anyway, the best predictive factor for the
occurrence of ROP is the degree of prematurity of the infants
involved. The etiology of the disease is complicated.

Thank you. I'll look that one up.

I consider sending of raw HTML filesin the mail a sure-fire
indicator of SPAM and hit the "d" key as soon as I start hearing
such codes. I don't know of any way on-line to strip out such
codes though there ought be a way under UNIX systems to pipe
mailer output thru some sort of filter. I understand that KanSys
Inc.'s BARB the Browser handles HTML files. I would presume this
means that it strips out the codes and does its best to convert
the page layout into something which is intelligible with speech
of Braille display.
