Well, FWIW, Stephen,
SH> or is everyone waiting with bated breath for
SH> news of GEOS 3.0?
My breath isn't bated. I'm still here but am in lurk mode most of the
time. Here's one small example of why. Got sick with the cold-sore
throat-yukky aches "krappy krud" during the big regional bridge
tournament here in Houston last weekend, kept right on playing
through the weekend, ended up spending this past Monday and Tuesday
off work sick in bed, didn't even look at echomail or e-mail until
Thursday night, and am just now starting to answer a little of the
backed up stuff but can't do much because I have to get the new issue
of Canine Classified underway and finishing gathering the income tax
stuff for my CPA and -- oh woe is me -- this is a *short* month and
I'll never get everything done in 28 days when I can't do it in a
normal 31 day period.
All kidding aside, the main reason why I'm not active here or in
comp.os.geos is that I really don't have anything substantive to say
about anything. I'm still just an end user who doesn't program, doesn't
understand programming discussions enough to even ask stupid questions
, and rarely sees anyone posting requests for tips on how to do
things with the apps we already have in or for Ensemble 2.0 which is
what I feel comfortable writing about.
I have nothing to share on the subject of Ensemble vs. NDO because I
haven't yet installed and won't install the NDO evaluation copy that
I got for writing about my experiences with GEOS 2.0 because of what
was in the echo and the newsgroup about bugs involved with printing
and other things. The envelope full of installation disks and the NDO
manual was stored in my file cabinet when the NDO rep told me I didn't
need to return them after I advised that I had reservations about
installing because my monthly deadlines for doing my canine newspaper
wouldn't allow me any elective down time for experimenting with a
different version.
Since I am completely satisfied with my very stable copy of Ensemble
2.0 and don't need anything more to do what I need to do every month,
I don't want to risk losing what I have by switching to a version
that fixes things that haven't been bothering me in what I have and
maybe messes up things that work perfectly for me right now and doesn't
give me the few word processing features I would like to have in
Geowrite (NewWrite) that are in WordPerfect 6.0/6.1 Windows. So I feel
kind of detached from the mainstream of the echo participants because I
enjoy my Ensemble 2.0 like it is and don't really give a damn whether
there is ever anything more to it than what I have right now.
I'll probably be "gone" again for a while now that I've answered this
note and a couple of others; but I'm not really; I'm just retreating
again into a "read only" lurk mode and will probably stay there until
the Ides of March arrive.
