National Guard making cuts in state
RALEIGH - The Army National Guard is North Carolina will be
reduced by about 600 positions over the next four years officials
announced Friday.
The cuts are part of a nationwide reduction in active and reserve
forces mandated by the Department of Defense, said Maj. Gen. Gerald
A. Rudisill, Jr., North Carolina Adjutant General.
"When you have a large reduction in funding to the military,
there simply isn't enough money to pay for our pre-Desert Storm
manning levels," Rudisill said. "We are trying through this
reorganization plan, to minimize the affect of the reduction on
our mission capability, our community presence and, most importantly,
on our soldiers."
