HM>> Symbol rate = 3200 TC> HM>> The bandwidth and echo aren't too good, I got up to 3825Hz and 1ms to my TC> HM>> university, which is in the city (20km) while Paul is out this side of HM>> town, quite a bit closer. BG>> Dunno, I'd be very interested to see how a Courier performs BG>> from your site. With those levels and bandwidth, you BG>> should be seeing a 3429 symbol rate. TC> HM>> Unfortunately those stats don't seem to include the connect speed, which TC> HM>> was 31200 RX / 26400 TX. Haven't had 33.6 yet. BG>> And with 3200 symbol rate, you won't see 33k6 anyway, as BG>> that requires the 3429 symbol rate. 3:640/305 is a good BG>> test, as Dave can just about spit on his exchange from his BG>> back door, and even with my poor lines, I'm getting 33k6 BG>> connects with his Courier (usually 33600/31200). TC> Supra will not connect to Courier at 33.6 according to Supra Echo TC> contributor: This is very had to believe. In my experience: Supra 288i modems were the only Rockwells ever, to connect to Couriers at 28800 with a full 3300cps every time Most other rockwells connected at 26400 The 33600 supra is only an extension of the 28800, it should follow that the supra has higher throughputs to a courier that any other rockwell TC> If the calling modem is a USR Courier then the Symbol rate of 3429 is TC> obtained and a 33600 connect is possible. TC> BUT if the Supra is the Calling modem then the USR defaults to 3200 TC> Symbol rate and the maximum speed is 31200. This is a bandwidth limitation on the telco line (exchange) that the Supra is dialing from or to. It is not the supras fault or the couriers fault. Modem manufacturers technology is way ahead of Testrapathy's The only thing that stops 2 modems talking at full steam is the line between them. TC> I think USR does know this (or they will soon) and hopefully we should TC> see a .SDL flash update for them though they could be waiting for the TC> ITU to approve the V34+ first before doing anything.. As I said, It is not the modem manufactures problem, it is a telco problem. I will prove it by connecting a supra 33600 (if I had one) to a courier 33600 via 2 metre modular phone cable and doing a line probe. TC> I have about 5 Courier around me here (within 10 miles) all connect TC> with the 3429 rate to me but when I connct to them I get a 3200 rate. They are all closer to there exchanges to you and have better bandwith than you (maybe later model exchanges and shorter copper runs) example: I connect to JabberWOCky with a 3429 symbol rate all the time. Bill Grimsley also connects to JabberWOCky with a 3429 symbol rate. Bill and I both get 33600/31200 connects to David (We download from him at 33600 throughput rates...3850cps & up, and upload to him at 31200 thoughtput speeds) This meaans that both our exchanges and line are capable of it.... if there is at least one user right next to their exchange (which is David.) I am 2 or 3 km from my exchange and Bill is argueably further. and we have only ever got 26400-31200 connects and throughput rates. between each other. Earlier this year I spent 2 months in Mossman FNQ (1800km from David) and connected 2 & 3 times a day, every day at 33600/33600 BOTH WAYS because we were both only a few doors down from our exchanges. Summing up, the only common factor with great 33600 conneccts all the time, is the closeness of the exchange. (less voltage drop) Russell --- Terminate 4.00/Pro* Origin: Data Deleters Inc.
