Re: Re: Found New Hardware By: Daryl Stout to TOM WALKER on Thu Jun 11 2015 10:26 am I remember back in the day we had a finance person set up the accounting system on "their" servers. "Servers" being underpowered desktops with single ATA drives. Somehow, my group inherited this mess of systems, and regular complaints of slowness were the norm. I'd go in the server room, look at the system -- everything seemed OK, and the app responded OK. Later that day, more complaints of slowness. Look at everything, it all looked OK. Later on, more complaints. The culprit? That OpenGL "Pipes" screen saver took just enough CPU power to draw the screen that it slowed down the app. Switching to a plain old blank screen saver fixed the issue. Putting it on a real server later made me a hero. It's nice to get credit for cleaning up someone else's mess, doesn't happen often enough. :) --- SBBSecho 2.27-Win32* Origin: http://realitycheckbbs.org | tomorrow's retro tech (1:218/700) SEEN-BY: 18/200 19/33 34/999 90/1 116/18 120/331 123/500 128/187 135/364 140/1 SEEN-BY: 218/700 222/2 226/0 160 230/150 240/1120 249/303 261/38 100 266/404 SEEN-BY: 267/155 280/464 1027 282/1031 1056 292/907 908 320/119 340/400 393/68 SEEN-BY: 396/45 633/267 280 640/384 712/620 848 770/1 801/161 2320/105 303 @PATH: 218/700 261/38 712/848 633/267 |
