RM> Does time have to have a beginning?
RM> Sorry, Frank I really don't give a %#$& what Augustine's opinion was, or
RM> any of the past philosophers. I DO care what YOUR opinion is, though.
RM> :)
FM> Well, I can accomodate you easily on that. The world had a slow start
FM> as that old country doctor slapped me on the buttocks and shouted, "cry,
FM> you little devil, you, CRY!" and burst into full audio-visual display
FM> the day I had my first bottle of beer at about age 17!!!
RM> Meaning?
Sort of a half-serious but by no means flippant reference to the subject
n
which Day Brown expounds now and then regarding the relationship of drugs to
early rites and particularly the Dionysiac frenzies. Many of Day's
observations I consider to be soundly based. Plato, in the _Laws_ talks about
plying the young men who will be the leaders in a colony with alcohol,
apparently to both test their ability to deal with the kind of "serious play"
which is so much the stuff of running a State. Social drinking, as you
urely
know, releases certain inhibitions when indulged in up to a point. I had to
learn the hard way (mostly during days in the military) not to attempt to
drink up all of the alcoholic beverage existing in the world in the course of
one night of partying.
In deference to an insulin-dependent diabetic wife I gave up drinking
cocktails when she had to do so so my arteries are probably clogging up
aster
now than the otherwise might. At least that's the indication of some popular
studies!!!
Sincerely,
Frank
