It's the "Reagan legacy" angle that I found worthy of comment.
You may find it hard to believe, but I thought there was valuable
intellectual substance in supply-side ideas, and that Reagan's domestic
policy was an inevitable swing of the pendulum away from a New Deal-Great
Society approach that had gone onto auto-pilot: "Got a problem? any
problem? here's a federal program, and don't ask if it has a downside, if
it's cost-effective, or even if it's working." You won't hear me
defending the Teddy Kennedys who are still mindlessly working that patch.

But as always in politics, nothing fails like success. To me, Bartlett is
one of more and more conservatives who recognize that *their* philosophy
has now gone onto auto-pilot, with the Bushies chanting "stay the
course" as we fly into the fiscal mountainside (and the DeLay crowd
rifles the passengers' luggage).
