BA> This machine is a 486/66.
Actually, I'd honestly prefer 3-4 80386's than one single Dual Core.
Especially on the lines of what Dan was getting at... Give me a
80386 running Windows'95 (maybe 1 running Windows'2000), and another
running ms-dos 6.22 w/ windows 3.1 for a few appplications.... And
maybe 1 more running Linux.... Most programming would be done on the
DOS system, reading mail on the DOS system, and BBS on the Linux or
Windows'2000 system.... It'd be far more flexible that way....
Best of all, when I want a full-screen console window, I'd have one.
I could design graphics mode applications that can switch graphics
modes as I please and not worry about messages telling me I can't
run the application. This is how I take Dan's comments on
"if it did what they want"... Granted, Microsoft and other comercial
software companies will demand that you can only buy the latest and
greatest that requires you to run the most up to date Operating system,
and will of course need more ram, cpu speed, hard drive space, etc.
all to run quite a bit slower than the software your presently using
on the 80386 runnning ms-dos 6.22 .... Darn it....
BA> IMO most of the people in this country shouldn't be allowed to be in
BA> the same room with a computer, let alone own one and try to use it.
Well, that's sorta true for two seperate reasons... I mean, some
people would try to put the nations security at risk.... The other
group of people would be so stupid they'd hand their wallet over
to a shady looking guy wearing a hood over his face saying he thought
it looked cool... Once the guy took all their money and their ID
out of the wallet and handed their empty wallet back, they'd probably
thank him and tell him to have a nice day.... At which point, he'd
say "I plan to!"
... Go straight to the docs. Do not pass GO. Do not collect $200!
