Where is the scratch on the mirror?  If under the diagonal shadow, forget
it (obviously).  If it's radial, maybe it could hide under a spider vane. 
Probably wouldn't hurt anyway, considering it's an infinitesimal fraction
of the area of that BIG mirror.  Also, what's the state of polish on the
mirror? - if almost done, the benefit/cost ratio of going back to grinding
gets pretty small - just think of getting another scratch after going
through another grind-polish cycle.
