    You are right. Must have read that half a dozen times and missed the
tag each time. Obviously I'm going blind.

    So - what he's attempting is to read in a Pascal type string from a
file into memory. I've done that umpteen times. The only problem I've had
with it has been alignment in structures and the data file. Unless they
match it won't work.

    If the thing is just too big, surely the compiler should complain?
