While this is a Windows 95 echo, and I'm running XP, I've run into a
sound card issue with 2 different ham radio applications...and since
there are some fellow hams in here (i.e. Holger and Ed), I thought I'd
ask this question.

  For my microphone, I'm using the one with my webcam, that I use when I
run Skype (which is used very sparingly), as the audio quality is much
better. For the speaker, I had been using the USB PnP device with the
headset mic...as it helps to cut out ambient background noise...and it
sounds better than the RealTek soundcard with the computer.

  The "problem" is when I use the DV Dongle and DV Tools (D-Star) versus
Echolink.

  It works perfect with the DV Dongle and DV Tools...with the mic on the
webcam, and the incoming audio to the headset. However, on Echolink,
while the mic on the webcam works, the audio instead goes to the PC
Speaker INSTEAD of to the headset. The audio on the headset is the
"signals", such as when the connection to the node is made or lost, or a
text message is sent...but, the audio of the transmitting station goes
through the PC speaker.

  I've checked the sound settings in the XP Control Panel, and in both
the DV Tools program, and in Echolink, and the input and output sources
are identical. Yet, the "glitch" still exists, and it's harder to copy
audio from the PC speaker, than from the headset mic.

  Would getting a pair of USB speakers solve the problem (I do have a
$20 rewards card from Office Depot, that would practically pay for it),
or is there another option I'm missing?? It'd be cheaper than getting a
new soundcard.

  While I only run or check into 2 Echolink Nets, and 1 Packet Net a
week, all the rest (nearly 20) are D-Star.

  Any help would be appreciated.
