Bill,

If you are adventurous and willing to try a little chemical work, locate an
old edition of "The Handbook of Chemistry and Physics," Chemical
Rubber Publishing Co, Cleveland Ohio, from around the 1940s through the
1960s. Look up the Rochelle salts chemical silvering process. There are
good directions for using this relatively slow deposition method, including
how to view two equal light sources by transmission and reflection to judge
the 50/50 balance for when to stop the process. If you're after a dividing
cube, the cementing of the second prism gives good protection of the
silver, and the film will hold up for a long time. (I know, I've done this
quite a few times in years past.)

Good luck,
Bill
