From The T.I.E.&M. Shop...
Dear SemWare,
I've been thinking lately of a new feature to add to TSE which may be helpful
to most writers who use it.
But, at the moment, I can't think of it. Perhaps later I can remember just
what that gold-plated jewel of an idea was...maybe TSE can (if at all
possible) be given a macro which can reach out and pull in those runaway
thoughts? :)
Just kidding, of course. This is actually the first message I have written
using TSE with timEd, and I noticed right away that a memory problem popped
up.
When I ran the SpellChecker macro on this message, I received an error
message at the top of the screen, something like, "Too many nested
ExecMacro()s. Press (ESCAPE)."
Upon pressing escape, the spell checker would move to the next line, and
would again print the error message at the top of the screen.
The solution, of course, was to have timEd swap out of memory when it invokes
TSE. Now the spell checker works fine, with no error messages.
I'm running timEd, TSE, and my node on a 1985 HeathKit H-148 8-mHz XT under
PCDOS 7.0 and NDOS 6.01, with no memory boards. This is the reason for my
memory limitation. I've tested almost all of the keyboard combinations with
an 88-key keyboard with no grey keys, only 10 function keys, and a single set
of Ctrl and Alt keys. The only keys which do not work thus far are the
CtrlAlt-numbers-across-the-top combinations, which seem to produce unusual
effects, like blanking and unblanking the screen, and switching to the
dos-screen...just won't use them :).
As far as I can tell, all of the macros work with this set up as well.
It's more enjoyable on the '386 under Windows, but it's a kick to see it work
so well on an old machine. Now that it offers automatic wordwrap, as well as
having a VERY fast spellchecker, it's a better choice than the timEd internal
editor when I write messages locally, like this one. I can load other
multiple reference files while I am writing a message, and the internal
editor cannot do this.
As John Denver might say, "TSE is Far Out!"
Keep up the good work!
See you.
Larry
