subject: Man made lakes

FV> In lakes created this way, the river "channel" is still
there. That's
FV> why you can go to a lake and fish for channel catfish. ;)
 CH> I love catfish! :)

 FV> Me too. :)

:) So tender! There's a place in Keller called "Catfish!" ..but its
all fried and you taste mostly the fried part. Razzo's in FW has
wonderful catfish! :) Oh gosh. I want to go there again while the
weather is still nice so we can eat outside. I had the catfish with
pecan sacue and I'm telling you it was wonderful! :)

.................

FV> Salt water would not be real good inland, I think. Salt water tends to
FV> kill most non-marine plant life and soaks into the soil surrounding

CH> True. I was thinking of that big come and go lake in north western
 CH> Australia. Saw a PBS NATURE show about it awhile back. :) This area;
CH> a shallow valley floods (torrential rains), every five to ten years or
CH> so, takes two years to dry up. During this period the area springs to
CH> life. It's magical. :) Animals will come for water, flowers bloom
CH> everywhere. And there are frogs having laid dormant for five years ...
CH> hopping happily all over the place... I ought to go look it up.

FV> Lakes like that are neat, but hardly man made. :)

Oh of course they're not man made ! Heh.
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

CH> Lots of rich folks down here. I imagine it could be done given the
CH> will. You've seen the Japanese Garden in FW? Now that is amazing! To
CH> think it was once a gravel pit.

FV> I've never seen the Japanese Garden in FW. I suppose that some
FV> millionaire in Texas could create a salt lake, but why? It would be
FV> simpler and easier to just take a trip to the Gulf and be done with
 FV> it. ;)

OH Frank take yourself and the missus... it's lovely! Now is the
right time too. Not to hot and still warm enough. :) It's beautiful!
You'll forget wehre you are. Adm fee was 3 bucks. When you enter the
garden you are in a 'pre garden' sort of spot and then you come to the
booth where you pay the admission fee.

.....................

FV> "Open" to me means undeveloped in this case. Fields and
such as that
FV> would qualify. Housing developments and such do not.
CH> Nod. At least FW isn't as claustrophobic as Dallas.

 FV> True. Give it time.

CH> Keller is being eaten up by developers as we speak. :( Everything
CH> taking on a sterile look.

FV> Yup. McKinney is the same way. It's amazing. People want the country
FV> feel with all the perks of the city. They move to the country, create
FV> malls and other city businesses and then complain that the country is
 FV> gone.

Yeah... it is , gone. :( We ate in town one day... I liked to walke
around ... It felt good. A good homey feeling. Every place having its
own unqiue character complete with all the little imperfections and
the mature trees...

FV> It's kinda like those people that go to "rough it in the wild" with
FV> their travel trailers, computer links, satellite TV and such. :)

 Yeah. (shaking head).
