On 28-Jul-96 Vincent Wong scribble to All and I cut in with=-->

>VW=->Is there any harm done by raising baud rate to 115200 or
>VW=->any
>VW=->advantages of lowering it down to 57600 or 38400 baud,
>VW=->using a
>VW=->28.8 bps modem v.34?

Someone will correct me if I error ?

My setting:
Port           0       1
Address      03F8    02F8
IRQ            4       3
Current Baud 115200  115200
Current Mode  8N1     8N1
Locked Baud  115200  115200
Locked Mode   NO      NO
FOSSIL Active NO      YES
Chip Type    16550A  16550A
FIFOed        YES     YES

Please note the Chip Type If you have anything under the 16550 or older you
may have a lot of problems with the modem to computer connect and modem to
modem connect (errors) locked at 115200

The fast way to check it is to lock the port at 115200 and boot the system and
do a AT&V from the terminal program and if it does not list very good (letters
out of line, doesn't get to the end of the listing very well) Foreget about
115200 But if it does then you will need to test to another system and see if
it is clean (Download & Upload)

You will need to test to a system that you know you have clean phone lines to

Lock at 57600 and do it all again

Lock at 38400 and do it all again

Due to the modem you have the computer and hardware comms chip type and even
the phone lines the best locked port is what you can get the max out of at
your system

You maybe running under Dos, Windows or say DesQview which I am

The higher locked port that your system can handle the better as it gives more
time for the modem to modem connection to work thing out ?

If you are running under windows you will be better of getting help in a
windows echoarea as the *.INI file can be changed to help

If you are running from Dos a newer terminal program maybe needed

If you are running a BBS or Terminal and haven't any problems ?

Have fun now

Bob
