Hi Dave,
I was hoping that maybe you could help me with this problem. I also posted it
on alt.rec.boats
I have a 1987 Bayliner 2450 Ceria Sunbridge with a 260 HP engine and an OMC
outdrive. Last week I could not get the outdrive to shift into forward
without
running the RPMs way up and then it stopped going into forward at all (at any
reasonable RPM I ran it up to).
A service guy at the gas dock where I was lucky enough to have this occur,
told me that my shift cable had stretched and that I should try adjusting the
cable as a temporary fix. He also said that my "Dog gears" sounded fine.
I adjusted the cable on the bottom of a rocker assembly mounted on the engine
one way and nothing worked, so I adjusted it the other way and it seemed to
work fine. Went forward like new.
That got me back to the dock where I reversed but then it stayed in reverse
even though the shift was put back in neutral. Again, it took a high RPM to
get back into forward (makes docking exciting again).
Before I go on adjusting or replacing a "stretched" cable, I thought I'd ask
for some input and some help.
Help!
Thanks,
Bill

BTW- I did chew up an AL prop on a rocky sand bar about a month ago.
