& that I could agree with until you look at the job descriptions:

nowadays overhere:

Frigate is anti-sub
Destroyer is anti-air

Both of whom usually operate in groups (e.g. anti-sub cover for a
taskforce/convoy or anti-air for a taskforce/convoy).

But equally nowadays most RN destroyers/frigates actually have the cruiser
role i.e. operating alone & "cruising" e.g. in the West
Indies etc. & frigates carry SAM's & destroyers have sonar,
anti-sub rockets/torpedos etc.


so....you're left with the feeling that destroyer sounds cheaper to the
bean counters
