| subject: | Re: V.34 Viper to Courier |
Once apon a time John Piper said, 'V.34 Viper to Courier' to All... JP> I have a new user logging on now. He's just completed the new user JP> registration questionnaire, and when asked what sort of modem he has JP> he entered Spirit Viper V.34. Yet despite this, he only connected to my JP> Courier at 2400/ARQ/V34/LAPM. JP> Has anyone else experienced such a slow connect speed between Spirit JP> Vipers and Couriers? Trev? One possibility - the user may have their com port speed set really low like 2400, forcing the modem to connect at only 2400, even though its using V34. And when you consider that Bitcom, (bundled with Bitware) defaults to 2400 for the com port speed, and is very often the first comms program that a new modem user comes across, its not surprising. Another possibility is that you're using something like Frontdoor, which doesnt correctly recognise connects at 21600, 24000, and 26400 without a bit of judicious patchup work. If this is the case, then he is actually connecting at 24000, not 2400. Look in your log file, and if thats whats happening, then you'll see something like: CONNECT 24000/ARQ Connected at 2400..... Two things need to be done to fix this, let me know if thats your problem, and I'll post the details on how to fix it...(just been down this road myself ;-) Regards, Simon ...
