I recently purchased Q-modem Pro for Windows-95, and I can't
achieve over 2400bps with either my USR 14.4, or USR 28.8. I
think that it is probably a Windows problem, seeing that if I directly
access the comm ports with QmPro95, I get better results. Both of the
modems seem to be set up correctly in Win95, with the correct baud
settings, etc. Both of the modems are internal, the 14.4 on Comm 2 irq
3, and the 28.8 Comm 3 irq 7. Their are no conflicts with any other
devices on the system, and the 16550 FIFO buffer is set on for both in
Win95's modem setup. The 28.8 is set up PnP. I do admit, from where I
call from there is MUCH line noise. However, I do connect at proper
speeds when using other dos and windows programs that aren't Win95
based, although my 14.4 kicks down to 12000bps on occasion. I tend to
believe that Win95 is more sensitive to line noise than other programs.
Any solutions?? Please Comment....
BTW, I can't have the phone company correct my line noise problem, I'm
living outside the US, and am doing good to just get dial tone on a day
to day basis. :)
