From The T.I.E.&M. Shop...
Dear SemWare,
I would like to inform SemWare of a serious health problem which the 2.5
version of TSE causes. A health warning label such as the following may be
needed.
"TSE 2.5 may be hazardous to your health. It causes severe cases of
excitement chill-bumps with use. Moderation may be mandatory!"
:)
I can't remember enjoying configuring a program this much since ZCPR!
Thanks for the individual loaded file info screen --- LOVE IT!
Thanks for the ability to fill blocks with strings!!!
Thanks for the persistent histories --- how'd I live without it???
Thanks for the auto-wrapping paragraphs --- I can now use it with timEd!
My turn to contribute:
I would like to see TSE able to do glossaries. I now use a text file to save
multiple-use phrases and forms, and it works pretty well, but it would be
nice to have TSE handle this in a database-type auto-key method. For
instance, say I'm touring FidoNet, and someone asks for an editor
recommendation, I would like to be able to hit 'Alt T T' to have my TSE spiel
splashed into the message.
Wouldn't that be refreshing?
And...
I know TSE was not intended to be a wordprocessor, but it is now better and
more satisfying than any I have ever used, even if it can't do wysiwyg. (I
can't do wysiwyg either --- no one can read my writing! :))
I would ask for concessions to word-processing:
...please permit primitive underlining: this could be done by permitting a
TSE user to define fore and aft print characters in the cfg;
...please find/create a modern thesaurus engine for TSE: Lots of us Neil
Simons out here sometimes just like to show off. :) I currently use a circa
1987 Webster's TSR Thesaurus overtop my TSE...it works just fine, but is
limited in scope. (A recommendation of a good matching Dictionary/Thesaurus
would be just as good.)
And...
Finally, I would love to see added to TSE a GrandView-like outliner
capability. As I envision it in practice, TSE would remain pristine as it is
now, with the ability to load an outline side-by-side with a file in the
ng.
The first file would be my text work, the second file would be its outline.
The first file would be controlled by TSE just as now, the second file would
be controlled by an outline engine in TSE.
What I have now is a Windows workaround for this. I load TSE into one window,
and GrandView into another. Even with the Windows clipboard, it is difficult
to impossible to transfer and/or share data between the two. Even OS/2 does
not make this arrangement work much better, and GrandView does not do good
text dumps...and you can't get them back!
GrandView is my favorite commercial program. Problem is, it does too many
things. The project management and timeline stuff could be stripped out of it
with no one noticing.
I like outliners. I bought PC Outline from Brown Bag in a Wordstar package,
and loved the concept so much I bought GrandView. The ability to create and
use headers of differing levels is just an awesome experience I have come to
love.
I hope that you guys are looking for a novel addition to TSE to keep the
rainy nights in Georgia from feeling like it's raining all over the world.
With the decision to add an outline to TSE, and your excellence, I can
imagine such a program, and my chill-bumps are having chill-bumps just
thinking about it. :)
{{{...dreaming...i have just marked a 40-line block in a tse outline file and
i move to a tse text file and copy the block into it...tse completely manages
to take the outline image and intelligently translates it into a text
image...i tell tse i want to add this block to my glossary and tse asks me
which one and i answer and tse asks me if i want to give it a key or put it
into a menu and i woke up...fell out of bed...dragged a comb across my
head...and i invite tse to give it a key and call it ctrlshift apostrophe...i
later mark a block of text in a tse text file and copy it over to a tse
outline file and tse intelligently translates the text image into the nearest
matching outline image in the outline file...tse asks me if i am happy and i
underline my answer...choosing my words carefully...yes...agreed...
allright...aye...
OK...okay...yea...exactly...precisely...assent...accede... acquiesce...
agree... consent...subscribe...}}}
I wake up. It's just a lowercase dream.
But, Boy, what a dream...
TSE does that to people.
See you.
Larry
