-> Now that is one of the most naive perspectives of what a corporation is
that
-> I've ever heard. If you check your economics textbook, you would be right.
-> If you take a look out your window at reality, there's a whole 'nother
-> story. Let's say I follow your advice. I save for a MONTH to purchase,
ay,
-> 5 shares of Microsoft. How soon do you think I'll be invited to offer my
-> opinion on their company? How soon do you think my opinion will make a
-> difference?
Actually, you could be correct. Using the same logic, why bother to vote?
With millions of people voting for president, and groups giving hugh sums of
money to lobby for their own personal gain, what chance do you have to make
n
impact? You should probably chalk the whole thing up as a waste of time. Do
you agree?
-> Now, consider Joe Rich who saves for one DAY and buys 25% of
-> Microsoft's stock. How soon do you think HIS opinion will matter?
I agree that he will INITIALLY carry far more weight than you. This also
holds with famous people and people with impressive sounding titles.
lthough
I do not necessarily understand the reasonning behind this, I have observed
it.
-> Boycotting and investing are perhaps the two most benign forms of
-> social/political change that I've EVER heard.
Perhaps not as rapid as other forms, but they have been known to be
effective nevertheless.
