LC> Firstly, I can complain to the authorities because I do comply with
LC> the law when we do a fax ad campaign, so in your scenario the
LC> authorities are called the second night and the revenger is talking to
LC> BCTel Security (at risk of losing all phone service) that day.
Hey, Laurie ! Guess What ? The CRTC gave BCTel some _more_ teeth......
Check-out the following capulization, hot "off the wire" from CP, Ottawa:
"CRTC has approved proposals yesterday to limit the hours during which
uninvited fax advertising can be sent.
Unsolicited advertising by fax will be allowed between 9AM and 9:30PM
from Monday to Friday, and 10AM to 6PM on Saturday and Sundays in areas
served by Bell Canada and BCTel.
Advertisers will also have to comply within seven days with a consumer's
request not to be faxed again, down from the current 30 days."
Spread this news around !
LC> Secondly, when some moron can't figure out how to tick the box that
LC> states clearly "If you don't wish to recieve any more faxes from us
LC> please fill in your fax number here" and thinks he's clever by sending
LC> perpetual loops set to automatically resend and resend until I get all
LC> 500 pages, he's attacking the wrong end. The faxes don't go out from
LC> here. All I do is turn the fax machine off when I go to bed.
One of the "ideas" behind the popularity of many of today's fax machines
is that of unattended receiving of messages. It's unfortunate that this
feature has been so badly abused that many of us do end-up doing exactly
what you're doing: turning the thing "off" after hours.
As I've already told Dick, I do have a "problem" with fax owners that
like to play "vigilante". His response ? A multi-multi-liner that was so
outdated as to be good only with Thomas Jefferson......! It was a
"good read" though...just not updated...
LC> What I do is allow the beginning of each send so that I have
LC> the identifyer to give the autahorities to support my claim of phone
LC> harassment.
Got one better going for me here: continuous auto monitoring of all
calls "in", providing a daily hard-copy record if desired. Call modes
are clearly indicated, as well....
