If you had a "bad" crack of SIO, it would slowly start to degrade
communications over time.  Really slick.  Right now, several of us are on
Facebook trying to help Ray get the proper development environment together
so he can at least give out free registration keys.  He said he cannot make
it open source due to the libraries he used in it but he said that if he
could get a proper development system set up that he would give out keys if
possible.

We'll see what happens but he has given people permission to crack SIO.
