subject: A-380 wing fails at less then ultimate

From: George Sherwood

Looks like the wing failed between 1.45 and 1.5 in the 1.5 ultimate load
test. It seems to me they are downplaying any changes that might be
required or any delays the program might incur. My experience (admittedly
more in aircraft add-on designs then aircraft design) tells me this will
cause a delay even if it doesn't result in any changes.

The wing of the Airbus A380 static test specimen suffered a structural
failure below the ultimate load target during trials in Toulouse earlier
this week, but Airbus is confident that it will not need to modify
production aircraft.
