Slim since I don't know where my owners manual is at the moment.

I rather keep it and get it repaired.  If you are interested in a 
shortwave radio for your car, you might want to look at a model made by 
Becker.  There is an article on the Mexico 2340 in the 1997 Passport to 
World Band Radio.  There used to be a firm that advertised it 
Monitoring Times Magazine.
