Those requirements are prior to and not allowing for the newer LBA support that exists on all modern (~1996) motherboards. These days with LBA as the default (BIOS auto-detect will select LBA for LBA supporting HDD's) it's normal to use 1.6GB or larger single partitions for all OS's.
