Not quite your plot, but there is some decidedly prescient SF on the
subject:

Start with William Gibson's 'Neuromancer" (1984).

If you like that one, try his 'Count Zero' and 'Burning Chrome'

Neal Stephenson's "Snow Crash" is also rather good, as is "Cryptonomicon".
