It's different in a desert. Deserts are often flat for miles around &
doing a dbp etc to a desert base is a pretty exciting challenge. esp in the
era of ir surveillance etc (cold flat desert...hot bodies...etc).

No...it's the over the horizon big stick approach. Basically it's the
"we have the guns to win any serious mano a mano type fight so...you
don't want us to support your opponents do you.....?"
Wrt the sunni.....ummmm...they will be attritted down but in ways which
having your people in the towns & cities wouldn't stop anyway (e.g. how
many of the recent assassinations/group killings have your troops managed
to stop?)

It's going to be quite a nasty business but the idea of a repressed
majority turning round all magnaminous & forgiving entirely the
minority which has suppressed it has basically only happened in South
Africa & then....the non-black groups need to know that they are
minorities etc.
However wrt getting out & having the place somehwat more
peaceful....then don't annoy the tits off the locals by churning round
their streets looking all hard.
Yes that does mean turning a blind eye to shia/interior min death squads,
but you knew that when you went in.
