OK, one can reprogram anything from the front panel, which has about 4
buttons, and any setting that can be obtained by an AT command, including
online S/N ratio can be displayed on a back-lit one-line LCD. It doesn't
give quite as detailed results as the USR diagnostics, but they are
preserved across an ATZ.

For $$$$ one can get a cable and management software that connect the modem
through a second serial port to a PC.

The 3265 was about $1299. For about $1500 one can get the Penril Datalink
V34M which has similar features (LCD display and front panel controls,
separately available cable and management software).

Another modem worth considering at the high end is the General DataComm
unit, which is about $1000 ex-tax, but it offers no LCD display or front
panel controls.
