My PRO-2021 has the same problem. The PRO-2021 uses an electro-luminesent
panel for a back light on the lcd and my local RS showed the part as
no longer available. Have your local RS store check the availibility for
you. You might need the part number, which is one good reason to order
a service manual whenever you buy a new scanner.
When my display gets too dim to read, I plan to use leds for backlighting.
