Don't spray either! Go buy some pyrethrin-based spray. It kills just about
all bugs (including beneficials, so be cautious in its useage), and it is
*not toxic* - it's made from the pyrethrin daisy. Works well on carpenter
ants (we just treated for them last month) and a host of other pests. The key
thing is that you don't have to be worried about your children or pets
playing near it. Malathion and Dianzanon are quite toxic - and malathion
breaks down into substances which are still toxic (got a chemist for a
husband).
If you're worried about aphids, give it a day or so and see if your ladybugs
show up before doing anything. On last Thursday, my rose bushes were
*covered* with aphids. On Saturday, they were covered with ladybugs, eating
the aphids like candy. This week....no aphids.
