        Atlanta, GA, March 11 1997 - Hayes? 56K modems for desktop and
laptop computers, based on high-performance K56Flex technology are set
to hit the consumer retail shelves the week of March 24.

        Hayes 56K modems use K56Flex technology - the protocol supported
by Lucent Technologies and Rockwell International.  According to sources
at Dataquest, almost two-thirds of the remote access servers used by
ISPs and corporations have committed to support the K56Flex protocol.
Details of Hayes 56K modem availability and upgrade policy are posted on
Hayes Web Site at www.hayes.com.   Hayes is offering free 56K upgrades
for Hayes customers who purchase a Hayes OPTIMA 33.6 kbps or 28.8 kbps
or ACCURA 33.6 kbps or 28.8 kbps modem between February 1, 1997 and
April 15, 1997.  Hayes also announced in February that it will offer $99
56 kbps modem upgrades on any modem on the market - regardless of
manufacturer or speed. Hayes customers with any speed Hayes modem will
receive a discounted US$89 upgrade to 56K. All upgrades in this special
program must be redeemed by June 30, 1997.  A $15 shipping and handling
fee will be charged for all trade-ins.
        Hayes high-speed 56 kbps modems essentially double the speed of
downloading information from the Internet.  Making the leap to 56 kbps
is different from past speed increases because the modem is taking
advantage of the high-speed, digital connection to the telephone network
that Internet service providers and corporations already have.

computers and modems working closely to ensure that 56 kbps products are
compatible until 56 kbps becomes a worldwide standard.
