Another method is to fill in the slots with contrasting wood strips (maple
for a rosewood/ebony neck or rosewood for a maple neck). This is excellent
for a beginning fretless player... buy a cheapo Memphis or Rogue and do it
yourself. If you like it, once you get good enough not to have to look at the
neck, buy a real fretless.
