* Originally in: WindowsA Howdy! Jean, The last message I saw you write lately was in the WINDOWS echo, so I'm going to post this there and in WIN95. I just wanted to thank You for mentioning that you put programs that you use often in the Quicklaunch section of the Taskbar because you only had to give the icon One Click instead of a Double-Click to begin the program you wanted to use. Me, being amoung the lazy critters on this Earth, tried it and LOVED seeing that it started what "I" was wanting to do with the computer a lot easier than doing a Double-Click on a Desktop icon. When I used the C=64 to read messages about Microsoft DOS and WINDOWS using a Dial-up BBS back before I had a 486DX33 built for me in FEB'94, I'd share what little I learned from the messages that I read with some other people who hadn't learned of ALL the FREE INFORMATION that anyone could get knowledge of by calling a BBS. As I was at a persons house helping him install a new copy of WINDOWS 3.0 on his Gateway 2000 386SX?? PC, I noticed that he avoided Double-Clicking Desktop icons. He would Click the icon ONCE and the press the ENTER KEY. He said he started doing that because he had so much trouble getting a program to start up because usually when he Double-Clicked an icon he would move the icon instead of seeing the program start. I tried helping him adjust the mouse setting in Win3.0 but we never could find a setting that pleased him. Sometimes I will do that "Single-Click - Enter" method after I mess up the looks of the Desktop and then have to do the "Right-Click - select option" method to get all back in alignment, and then do another "Right-Click - select option" procedure to turn off the "Automatic" setting I had to use to straighten out what I messed up, so I could still be "in control" of my Desktop. Over in the Quicklaunch area sometimes I will accidently move the arrangement of QL icons, and that bothers me because I have the Taskbar option Set to "LOCK" things in place. PC=1 ED=0 The icons on the Clock side of the Taskbar will stay in place as they are suppose to, but the icons on the QL side will occasionally move when I fumble pressing the mouse button when I want to use one of the many programs I have QL icons for. Maybe You or Someone Else reading about this will have a suggestion for me to try, I hope so, because life would be so much more easier when I am using the computer(s). I have bought books to read Tips and Tricks in the Care and Feeding of these 'Beasts', but the majority of what I Know, Use and Share with others is what I've read in BBS messages. Ever since Mark Lewis let me know I could press one of the CTRL keys and use the Mouse Wheel to change the size of the Text I'm seeing on the screen when I'm reading something on the internet, I have mentioned that procedure to MANY MANY folks who use a computer at work, when I'm doing business with them. They try it and like it as I do. I have learned I can use the CTRL+Wheel to adjust what I see in other programs too. I use it in Irfanview all the time. THANKS MARK!! Jean, don't keep all of the other Tricks and Tips and Shortcuts that You have learned inside of your head, share them with us, PLEASE!! I know that you love experiments of all kind, what have you been up to lately? You've been missed. 73 ...
