If it's any help to anyone reading to know this: I have my old Adaptec 1542CF
in my new FIC PA 2012 motherboard with 32MB of RAM, with the /DBUFF switch to
AHA154X.ADD, and there have been no ill effects.
This is, of course, only an interim solution whilst I buy a new PCI SCSI host
bus adapter. Having examined the options, I'm still thinking of a DPT
2144UW.
I looked at a Diamond FirePort 40 Ultra Wide SCSI PCI HBA, since everyone was
crying "faster chipset and much cheaper than Adaptec! faster chipset and much
cheaper than Adaptec!", and I didn't like the corners that had been cut on
he
board in order to make it much cheaper than Buslogic, Advansys, and Adaptec.
