Hi Tim, hows it goin'? Even though I'm sorry to say I don't agree with your
feelings on jazz, I do see where you are coming form. Jazz is a very "free"
style, which is just what I love (Jazz, I find, is a VERY "acquired taste").
My mom feels the same way as yourself about jazz. She just can't stand the
improvised aspect of jazz. To her, it is just chaos, as I think is what you
mentioned before. She loves the Big Band stuff though
As I am a drummer, I find jazz to be very spiritual and uplifting, partly
because of the fact that I am free to do what I will. Plus, I find
percussion instruments to be very spiritual in their own right. I can easily
communicate feelings through my playing. As you probably know, drums have
been used for millions of years to communicate (and was the first instrument
ever invented), which I guess is why I find them so spiritualy uplifting.
Well, at least I have somewhat of an understanding of where you are coming
from with your opinions on "free" jazz. As I said, it is an acquired taste,
and not one that everyone can savour. Seeya Later
