Whatever the law is, we might revisit the question of what privacy
means on a planet that is getting pretty crowded. One of the ways
of expanding the personal space, is to limit what is intruded into
it. SPAM, junkmail, tv/radio adds, etc. are not examples of 'free
speech' if the source of it comes not from an *individual*, but is
an organizational creation, which I submit wasn't mentioned in the
Bill of Rights.
One of the advantages of FIDO (this's a FIDO echo ain't it?), is a
ban on commercial messages, for which, I for one, am grateful; the
moderator here and elsewhere is, I believe, a volunteer who sees a
way to improve free speech by us, by eliminating SPAM. This alone
is reason enough to preserve this alternative to the inet.
BTW: does anyone know what the acronym SPAM originally stood for?
