-> PW> FEDERAL CABLE - R.E.C. - DIV. OF I.T.T. AN TYPE RG-55/U
-> BB>Paul,
-> BB>It's listed in my 1981 ARRL handbook as follows:
-> 88
-> BB>Hope this helps.
-> BB>
-> BB>73, Bill

-> That was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks a lot, now
-> all I have to do is figure out where that blasted antenna mount
-> hid itself.
One other thing i might add. That cable is NOT typicaly recommended
for use above about about 30MHZ. Although it might be satisfactory at 50
mz. It has a Listed LOSS of 16.5 dB at 1000 mhz per 100 ft. This
compairs with 9 db for GOOD RG-8(NOT RADIO SHACK) and 4.5 dB for 9913.
So RG-55 is little better than RG-58 with it's 20 dB loss. As a side
Note concider the following about Losses in RF cable.
A 20 dB LOSS is loss of 99% of the signal reaching the Antenna.
A 15 dBLOSS is loss of 97% of the signal
A 9 dB LOSS is loss of 87% of the signal
A 4 dB LOSS is loss of 60% of the signal
Lower frequencies and shorter lengths of course provide lower losses.
But no matter how you cut it Quality in the Feed line is one of the MOST
important factors in Communications. Cutting the Feed line losses in
Half by dumping the RG-55 and using GOOD quality RG-8 is FAR better than
Increacing Transmitter power. And quite a bit cheaper.
