I have a motor that is:
                           1988 Mariner 200 block
                           1983 Merc 225 14-petal front-half
                           1987 Merc 220 Laser crank and pistons
                           1989 Mariner Hi-Compression one-piece heads
                           1987 Mariner 200 midsection
                           1988 Merc 2.4 EFI lower unit
                           1987 Mariner 200 wiring harness
                         rods from several assorted Mercs and Mariners 2.4s
There just AIN't no difference. Your dealer is just blowing smoke. I bet 
cash that he will work on my brother's Mariner if he wheeled it in there.
